One counter, the whole city
People come from Pollokshields with a list for a whole lamb, from Govanhill through the park for Tuesday's karahi, from the city centre on the train after work, and from the West End when a packet from the supermarket won't do. Same door. Same butcher. You say the dish, we cut the meat.
Every piece of meat we sell is halal: lamb, mutton, beef and chicken. There is no pork. Whole and half lambs are cut to your list if you ask a day or two ahead. Goat is not the same as our mutton, and it isn't something we promise to have out: ask the butcher.
We don't deliver. Big orders can be cut ready for you to collect. The order ahead page turns your list into a message you bring to the counter.
What to ask for
Name the dinner. Lamb chops thick for the grill, shoulder in bone-in pieces for karahi, a whole or half lamb for a crowd, beef mince with some fat for burgers, diced beef for a stew or a steak pie, chicken skinned and cut while you wait, mutton when you want the older, deeper flavour. The halal meat page is the map of all of that.
The rice, spices, herbs and veg are in the same shop, so the second errand is a walk down the aisle. That's the international grocery side of the place.
Getting to 44 Kilmarnock Road
From Glasgow Central, ScotRail runs direct to Shawlands on the Cathcart Circle, usually somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, and to Crossmyloof on the East Kilbride and Barrhead trains. Shawlands and Pollokshaws East stations are about a 10 minute walk. Crossmyloof is under 10. Buses run along Kilmarnock Road and Pollokshaws Road; get off near Shawlands Cross. We don't publish a bus number, because routes change.
The Southside routes, with the walk from each neighbourhood, are on the Southside page. Further out, pick your area below.
