Stay on the circle
From Glasgow Central via Queen's Park, Mount Florida is the stop before Cathcart. From Cathcart you can come back round the circle through Langside and Pollokshaws East to Shawlands. Both Shawlands and Pollokshaws East are about a 10 minute walk from 44 Kilmarnock Road. If your train is the other way, Crossmyloof on the East Kilbride line is the shorter walk, under 10 minutes.
Mount Florida uses the same circle. Get off at Shawlands rather than inventing a shortcut through the park with a 5kg bag of rice.
The weekly shop, not a dash
Cathcart households tend to come for the week: a chicken cut into curry pieces, a bag of basmati, and the spices that have run out, rather than a single chop on the way home. Do it in one go. The aisle is between the door and the butcher, so the rice is not a separate shop.
A cool bag is worth it in summer, especially if you're riding back out towards Muirend or Newton. We don't deliver, including not to Cathcart.
Ask ahead if it's a lamb
A whole lamb at around 18kg is a lot of train. If that's the plan, ask a day or two ahead, collect it, and put it in the car. Halves, around 9kg, are the calmer version of the same idea.
