There was a bunch of dill with the herbs when we photographed the shop in October 2026. It isn't one of the everyday lines like coriander and mint, so ask if you need a lot.
What to do with it
Stir chopped dill into yoghurt with salt and a little garlic for a cool sauce with lamb, fish or roasted vegetables. A handful folded through rice at the end of cooking, or scattered over a salad of cucumber and tomato, is enough. The stalks are milder than the fronds and can be chopped in too.
Our tipAdd dill at the end. It loses its smell if it cooks for long.
Keeping dill fresh
Treat it like mint. Trim the stalks, stand the bunch in a glass of water in the fridge and cover it loosely. It keeps for several days. Don't wash it until you need it.
Keeping it
Is dill the same as fennel?
No. Dill is finer and milder. Fennel has a thicker stalk and a stronger aniseed taste.
The herbs are just inside the door at 44 Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands, Glasgow G41 3NH. Opening hours.
